Aegean is an experiment in meaningful abstract visualization. Aegean produces procedurally generated isles from the an audio's digitized wave form and frequency response. It was my intent that the visuals produced by these systems would combine with the audio to form a more expressive whole, a type of gestalt.
The islands are constructed by mapping the average bass and treble frequency strengths onto a plane and blending with a quartic Laplacian smoother. The result is a series of little islands radiating from the scene center.
